About This Quote

This quote is one of the most famous statements of General Douglas MacArthur. During World War II, the Japanese Army invaded the Philippines, which was an American colony at the time. The Japanese Army suffered huge losses in their invasion of Southeast Asia and were forced to retreat. But it was not over; the Japanese Army returned in full force and attacked the American forces in the Philippines. The Americans finally retreated back to Bataan Peninsula, where they had constructed a formidable defense system that was called “Bataan Death March” by the Japanese.
